Windows into the heart of God

January 31, 2013

I’d love to meet God for coffee today. I’d just like to see Him, maybe even stare at Him. Wouldn’t you? I’m guessing we’d be too afraid or awe-struck to actually go inside the coffee shop where the Creator of ALL things stood . . . sat . . . or levitated.

It turns out that God and I already have an appointment to meet face-to-face. God’s written the day/time down on His heavenly iCal but He won’t reveal the time to me. He said He’ll just come and pick me up when it’s time. (Psalm 139:16)

So, in the meantime, He gives me glimpses of Himself. I love those majestic glimpses. Here are a few peaks that I’ve enjoyed:

Yosemite Falls

Awe-inspiring beauty of Yosemite

Care-free cartwheel of a child

Mysterious and therapeutic beauty of the Pacific Ocean

An orange orchard’s bright display of life

Depth of partnership revealed in a simple glance between a long-time couple

The desert cactus’ demonstration of perseverance

Refreshing hug after two people reconcile

Silky softness of baby’s skin

Uninhibited laugh of a child

The smell of fresh cut wood

Your heart feeling “alive again” after a desert season

When someone chooses to forgive

How about you? What are some majestic “God glimpses” you’ve seen?

The Caribbean ocean you can see the bottom of the ocean for miles and miles. The island of Hawaii. The flowers, ocean and waterfalls are amazing! A rainbow. A sunrise or sunset in California while sitting at the beach. The taste of my favorite pizza topped off with a hot fudge sundae. And so much more!!

    • You describe some beautiful “windows”! I agree that favorite foods and drinks (especially w/special people) are windows into God’s heart. Thanks Marla.

Little stuff like the feel of the sun’s warmth on your face on an autumn’s day. The smell of fresh cut grass. The feeling I get when my dog greets me at the door bounding with joy. When I use to surf, watching the sun rise early in the morning reflecting on the surface of the water. When my wife, for no reason at all, would reach out and squeeze my hand and whisper “I love you!” The sound of the basketball ripping through the net after a sweet jump shot. The peace I have after spending time in prayer and communion with God. The look of joy on my Granddaughters face when she accomplishes something new. But nothing beats the joy of leading a person in the sinner’s prayer for the first time.

    • I love all of these. Though I’ve never surfed and rarely experienced my own sweet jump shot. 🙂 Thanks Chuck!

The beautiful silence and peacefulness in a room when someone you love takes their last breath and you know their life was well lived and they knew their Lord and Savior.

    • That sounds like a beautiful window into God’s heart Sylvia. Knowing you courageously took this journey with your own Father so recently Sylvia makes this especially beautiful.
